The Pool Project

Not being one to shy away from controversy – here goes!

I want to have the pool repaired, so we can all use it and enjoy it once again.  However – I want to make sure we do that in a fiscally responsible way.

The original vote which was taken about the pool was, at best, confusing.  Unit owners were asked to choose between an expensive repair (about $300,000)  and removing the pool entirely, also for a hefty price(about $75,000).

I think some of the people who voted that they wanted the pool removed did so because they did not want and/or could not afford an additional $100 or more condo fee increase for 5 years.   And some of those same people had enjoyed the pool all summer for many years.  But they had to vote to remove it anyway – because they could not afford a $300, 000 project.

Some of the people who voted for the pool to be repaired did so because, without the pool, our property value is lowered by about $15,000 per unit.  That was my reasoning, anyway.  And having a pool is one of the reasons living in a condo is nice.  But just because someone voted that they want a pool does not mean they do not care about the costs.

So far, we have only one quote, which is very high, (base price $327,790 –  with extras that could likely push the total to $400, 000+). The work to be performed is not spelled out in detail.  Valid questions have been raised about the contract itself, which was received less than a week ago.  We have not set up a finance plan, and yet, some people want to move forward with it.  I do not.

I think we can find a way to get the pool repaired, at a much more reasonable price.  And we owe it to everyone at Eaglehead to do so.
