We need to meet.

Over the last few months, I have been on a condo board that does not meet in person.

A long email string is not the same as a meeting.

Some of the board members say meeting once per month is enough.

At every meeting, I recommend that we meet every two weeks until the property is in better shape.

Why? There is a lot to do.

  1. We are in the process of switching management companies.
  2. The common areas of our property are in disrepair. Our pool is not usable, our clubhouse needs work.
  3. Our finances and budget need to have a good solid analysis.
  4. We need to plan for a better future.

I would like the board to meet in person, at the clubhouse, at a regularly scheduled time each month, with a second meeting per month via Zoom.   If any condo owners want to stop in and listen, good. If there are any topics that need to be discussed in private, then the option exists for an executive session.

Right now, we are meeting once per month, via Zoom. However two of the board members do not even log in with the video, but only call in, so you just see a black screen.  This shows me that they do not take this responsibility seriously.

One of the board members tells me that spending any money ($60 per mailing) on stamps is a waste of money. I think more and better communication with unit owners and residents is extremely important, and this lack of communication and meeting in secret has gone on way too long.

We are trying to organize a meet-and-greet with the new management company (set for mid-November).  Plus, we have our annual meeting in December, which is for going over the annual budget, electing trustees, and other business. Yet, some board members do not want to do two open meetings in a row.

I think we need to be doing an analysis of the budget, and come up with better plans.

We need more people involved, and we need people on the board who will actually show up and do the work.

We do not need board members that refuse to meet in the very clubhouse in which we are supposed to be stewards.

Open the doors. Let the light in.
